WINDHOEK, 04 DEC – The Ministry of Health and Social Services and medical researchers from all over Namibia are meeting in Windhoek this week to develop strategies to improve the prevention, testing and treatment methods of HIV in Namibia.
The first-ever HIV Quality Improvement Conference started Tuesday and is aimed at sharing quality improvement initiatives that have been successfully implemented throughout healthcare facilities.
Taking place under the theme ‘Quality Improvement, our culture’, it will also promote networking and strengthening of the culture of continuous quality improvement in the Namibian healthcare environment.
“Quality improvement is something we want to internalise,” the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ben Nangombe said while speaking at the opening.
The conference attracted 70 abstracts from researchers all over Namibia, of which 47 were selected for presentation at the conference under various themes such as HIV testing and linkage, non-communicable diseases and paediatrics.
“Those whose abstracts may not have been accepted shouldn’t be discouraged. Let us refine them in the spirit of making quality a tradition,” Nangombe said.
The permanent secretary further said with Namibia being close to achieving epidemic control, it is more crucial than ever to focus on improving the quality of HIV care services so as to sustain the gains made.
“We need to ensure that the services we provide are safe, timely, efficient, effective, equitable and patient centered,” he said.
The conference is taking place over three days. – NAMPA
