Heavy rainfall kills one person in Malawi

   NSANJE, Malawi, Jan. 22  -- One person has died after being washed away by heavy run-off water and another three have sustained serious injuries when the walls of their houses fell on them in Nsanje, authorities have confirmed on Wednesday.
   According to Nsanje District Commissioner's spokesperson Martin Chiwanda, the victim is a young primary school girl who was trying to cross a river on Monday. Her remains were found and buried on Tuesday.
   He also confirmed that three adults have sustained injuries when the walls of their homes fell on them. 
   Earlier this week, the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development through the Department of Water Resources (DWR) issued a statement on expected floods in the southern region of Malawi due to heavy rainfall.
   Meanwhile, DWR is appealing to the public to adhere to the safety instructions that have been issued to avoid further loss.
   Some social service institutions have been shut down temporarily in the district due to flooding and heavy rainfall that is falling in the district. Xinhau
