MARIENTAL, 28 APR – Swapo party Secretary General Sophia Shaningwa on Friday congratulated the party’s Hardap branch on raising N$ 215 000 during the 58th Anniversary fundraising gala dinner held at Danie Joubert Sports ground.
In her speech at the gala dinner, Shaningwa said other regions should also come up with such initiatives to support the party’s administration.
“We should not sit back and work only with funds received from the headquarters. This is because while the headquarters have to channel funds to various regions, it also has various expenditures that need to be carried out hence it is of paramount importance that regions become innovative in creating ways to raise funds through events such as this one,” Shaningwa said.
She further said as party cadres, members should hold hands in unity to ensure that economic independence is achieved.
She said the funds raised should be spent according to the budgeted activities.
“There is a need for transparency and accountability in our operation so let the comrades see the outputs of their contributions so that when we have an event of this nature again, they will contribute as much as possible for they will know the funds will be used effectively and efficiently,” she said.
She said it would be prudent if regular reports are given as to how the funds were utilized.
Meanwhile Jan Scholtz, Chairperson of Marco Fishing Company Charity Trust handed over a donation of N.dollars 50 000 to the party’s Hardap branch at the celebrations on Saturday alongside the N. dollars 10 000 at the gala dinner on Friday evening.
President Hage Geingob and First Lady Monica Geingos donated N.dollars 50 000 at the anniversary celebrations on Saturday.
