Swakopmund, Aug. 26 — The governor of the Erongo region, Neville Andre accepted donations from well-wishers and sent the teams off to the Namibian Newspaper Cup taking place in the Oshana region this weekend.
Football and netball players were selected from different constituencies in the region, accompanied by their captains and coaches to represent the region as a team of excellence.
“At Swakop Uranium, we’re very proud to be the main sponsor of the Erongo team … both netball and football. We have always been very supportive of youth and sports development in the region,” said the Swakop Uranium representative at the event.
“As you embark on this journey to go and compete fearlessly, we encourage the netball team to bring the cup back home,” he added.
The captain of the defending netball champions of the Cup said that they are all very excited to play this weekend.
“I think we are all very well-prepared and most of us are coming fresh from the super league – prepared and well trained and we are all ready to bring back the cup,” she said adding that the boys were in good spirit and focused on bringing the cup back home.
The governor further encouraged the teams to take this tournament as a golden opportunity that can make a meaningful impact on their lives.
“You are given this tournament as a platform to showcase your talents. And if ever you make it to the top as professional players, always remember where you came from,” he encouraged.
He further encouraged them to go there showing high discipline and unity.
“I am happy that we are taking a team that is cross-cultural, cross-racist and very wonderful looking. That’s what you need to portray yourselves as when you go to the Oshana region. Whatever happens, people must still say that the Erongo team was the best team in mannerisms,” Andre said.
