Geingob lauds Nujoma ahead of Award of the Order of Companions

WINDHOEK, 27 APR. – President of the Republic of Namibia, Dr. Hage G. Geingob has revered the Founding President and Father of the Namibian Nation, Dr. Sam Shafishuna Nujoma, for his nomination and Award of the Order of the Companions of O.R Tambo Gold.
The order is awarded in three classes; the Supreme Companion of OR Tambo falling in the Gold class and celebrating individuals who have actively promoted the interests and aspirations of South Africa through excellent cooperation and active expression of solidarity and support.

In a statement from the Presidency, Geingob highlighted Nujoma’s iconic status, stressing the Founding Father had left an indelible footprint in Namibian history.

“Comrade Nujoma, an indomitable Pan-­‐Africanist and revolutionary par excellence is an emblem of our liberation struggle, and his contributions to the freedom of the oppressed extend beyond our borders. His deep footprints in the making of our history, and re-­‐shaping of our region, alongside traveling companions, including the venerable Oliver Reginald Tambo make him a natural and worthy recipient of the Award of the Order of the Companions of O.R Tambo Gold.”

Geingob reiterated that the award was a testimony to Nujoma’s selfless personal sacrifices as a freedom fighter, punctuating the fact that Nujoma would indeed accept his accolade on behalf of the populace he demonstrated love and commitment: Namibia’s people.

“It is a proud moment for Namibians when one of the best among their fold is elevated by the sister people of the Republic of South Africa to the Order of the Companions of O.R Tambo Gold,” said Geingob.

Tambo was a South African anti-apartheid politician and revolutionary who served as president of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1967 to 1991.
Along with South Africa’s late founding President, Nelson Mandela and his anti-apartheid activist counterpart, Walter Sisulu, they formed the ANC Youth League in 1943.
Tambo died on 24 April 1993.

Nujoma will travel to the Republic of South Africa to receive the Order of Companions of O.R Tambo Gold in Pretoria tomorrow, (Saturday, 28 April 2018.)
