Geingob calls VVIP drivers to order

WINDHOEK, 13 DEC – President Hage Geingob has raised disappointment over the ill behaviour of some Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Very Very Important Person designated drivers.
Geingob said this in a meeting with NamPol Inspector-General, Lieutenant-General Sebastian Ndeitunga and his high ranking subordinates at State House on Wednesday.
He said he received a report complaining about the ill behaviour of some drivers.
The Head of State explained that those drivers are often cited for behaving unruly towards ministers whom they are supposed to guard and serve.
“The basic problem is, we meet here at State House to attend Cabinet meetings but the drivers – first the noise making, the level of shouting [as if] they are in the field or somewhere in a bar. Just loud talking and we are in the Cabinet meeting, and then people listen to it and [the drivers are] talking about their ministers’ social behaviour. That shouldn’t be on,” Geingob said.
He urged them to at all times adhere to principles of loyalty, commitment, neutrality and impartiality whenever discharging their duties.
“You have an obligation and commitment to the government and therefore police officers should not be involved in gossiping, tribalism and racism,” he noted.
Geingob also said the force is there to serve the people and maintain peace and unity.
“So therefore, if you are tribalistic, if you are racist, those day are over,” he stated.
The aim of the meeting was for Geingob to thank NamPol on behalf of the Namibian people for their hard work throughout the year. – NAMPA
