Edugate to teach Tsumkwe learners through e-learning

OTJIWARONGO, 26 JUL – Otjiwarongo-based Edugate Academy Private School will in August start teaching learners of the Tsumkwe Senior Secondary School (SSS) with the assistance of its newly-introduced e-learning and teaching technology.
The e-learning technology connected to the internet transmits the audio and visuals of a live teacher in a classroom at Edugate to learners in Tsumkwe.
The two schools have so far completed the installation of the infrastructure which includes the fibre optic cables, smart boards, television screens, speakers and projector needed in the learning exchange.
Edugate Academy school representative, Frikkie Louw on Wednesday said this effective e-learning and classroom teaching method is new to the country.
“Our main target is to share what we do best in the classrooms here with the less-privileged rural schools in the country, and we are starting with Tsumkwe SSS,” said Louw.
Subjects such as mathematics, physical science, accounting and English will be taught, and best of all of the method, Louw said, is that it gives learners in rural classrooms the same teaching and learning opportunities as those in the urban areas.
He said it also exposes for free these rural school learners to the top-quality lessons offered by the Edugate teachers, who have been producing top symbols in mathematics, physical science, accounting and English at higher level.
“This technology helps us do with little resources, and also with a small administrative staff who can reach out to hundreds of learners in less than a second,” he said.
Edugate so far spent over N.dollars 500 000 to purchase and install the e-learning facilities at the two schools, said Louw.
He urged private and corporate stakeholders in education to support the system by any means so that in three years, Edugate can reach about 1 000 learners in rural schools.
Edugate plans to officially launch its e-learning system at the school on 06 August.
Acting Tsumkwe school principal, Barbara Uatananua on Thursday in a telephone interview with this news agency said that she would only express her true happiness about the programme once the official launch is done.
