WINDHOEK, 18 SEP – Different companies in the information and communication technology (ICT) industry on Monday sponsored N.dollars 1.32 million cash and N.dollars 150 000 in kind towards the 2018 National ICT Summit.
The summit under the custodianship of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) will take place in Windhoek from 15 to 17 October under the theme ‘Digital Transformation for an ICT Smart Nation’.
Speaking here at the sponsorship event, ICT Minister, Stanley Simataa said there is a need to focus on ICT to advance Namibia’s competitiveness.
“In whatever we do as a country regardless the size of population, ICT will continue to be the centre of all endeavours, be it in economic, politics and social dimensions,” said Simataa.
Simataa further said ICT can help to extract the hidden entrepreneurial potential of citizens, especially the youth, hence the industry must rise to their expectations.
He alluded that a lot of challenges have been raised since the first summit, which operators, service providers, regulators and government must attend to.
Simataa added that there is a need to do an annual audit to give credence in order to derive utility from it.
The summit aims to bring together all industry stakeholders and provide a platform to reflect on ICT trends as well as challenges facing the industry globally and in Namibia in particular.
At the same occasion, the minister launched the ICT Summit mobile application, which aims to provide a platform for people countrywide to be part of the summit.
