OUAGADOUGOU, July 31– Burkina Faso and Chad have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening security cooperation, particularly in the fight against terrorism, according to a statement issued Thursday by Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Security.
The commitment was made during a meeting in Ouagadougou between Burkina Faso’s Minister of Security Mahamadou Sana and a delegation of experts from Chad’s Ministry of Public Security and Immigration, led by Mahamat Ibrahim Man Man, director of human resources, finance, equipment and logistics at the ministry. The two sides discussed prospects for enhanced bilateral cooperation in the security sector.
According to the statement, the meeting served as a preparatory step toward a Burkina Faso-Chad Joint Cooperation Commission and aimed to lay the groundwork for a more structured partnership to address the security challenges facing both countries.
Mbai-Naissem Isaac Chamir, legal adviser to Chad’s minister of public security and immigration and a member of the delegation, said the talks reflected the two countries’ efforts to seek coordinated responses to the terrorist threat.
“This meeting is an exchange framework ahead of a major joint cooperation commission between Burkina Faso and Chad in the fight against the common scourge of terrorism,” he said.
The statement said the initiative is intended to promote the sharing of experience, expertise and best practices as the two countries seek to reinforce cooperation against transnational security threats.
The Chadian delegation also voiced hope that the ongoing dialogue would lead to a strong, lasting and mutually beneficial security partnership that respects the sovereignty of both countries. (Namibia Daily News / Xinhua)
