WINDHOEK, 07 APR – Botswana’s new president, Mokgweetsi Masisi will pay a courtesy call on President Hage Geingob on Monday.
“The courtesy visit follows the recent swearing in and inauguration of Masisi on 01 April 2018 as the fifth President of Botswana,” a statement availed to Nampa by the presidency on Friday said.
Masisi took over from Ian Khama, who stepped down after the constitutionally mandated two terms.
The president of Botswana is restricted to serving two five-year terms, according to an Act of Parliament which was reviewed in 1998.
The same Act also provides for the vice president to automatically fill the post should it become vacant.
As Khama’s deputy, Masisi took over automatically. Prior to his appointment as Botswana’s Vice President, Masisi was a United Nations Children’s Fund official and education minister.
