WINDHOEK, 06 JUN – Boffing Football Club from Ovitoto and Windhoek’s Truck netball team have won the 2018 edition of the Katutura Sport Union (KASU) Winter Cup.
Boffing beat Ehungiro Swallows from Otjinene 3-1 in the final at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Sunday to retain the cup for the third consecutive year, while Truck won it for the second year running.
Truck beat Super Star 35-30 at the Katutura Youth Complex netball courts to retain the netball trophy.
Speaking to Nampa after the match, Boffing coach Beleki Mbahuurua said he was very proud of his players’ performance.
“They followed my instructions very well from day one of this tournament and I am happy we retained the cup for the third year in a row,” Mbahuurua said.
Despite losing in the final, Mbajoroka Kahuna of Ehungiro Swallows walked away with the Man of the Match award.
Total prize money of N.dollars 20 000 was awarded to the teams.
Boffing won N.dollars 6 500 while Ehungiro Swallows took home N.dollars 3 500.
The semi-finalists in the football category, Life in the City Football Club and Super Star from Aminuis received N.dollars 2 000 each.
The winning netball team took home N.dollars 3 000, while runner-up Super Star from Aminuis received N.dollars 1 500. The losing semi-finalists, Otjiuamapeta and Ehungiro Swallows received N.dollars 750 each.
This year tournament attracted 19 soccer teams and nine netball teams.
KASU chairperson Kuveri Tjonga thanked the sponsors for making the tournament a reality.
The association was established in 1992 and caters for youth sports development in Katutura, especially football and netball.
The Winter Cup is an annual event.
