SWAKOPMUND, Sept. 20 — On Saturday, September 17, 2023, the Swakopmund Fistball Club (SFC) on the Coast played host to the fourth Bank Windhoek Fistball League match day. In the National A League, Cohen Fistball Club (CFC 1), the reigning champions, asserted their dominance, securing the top position in the group. Meanwhile, Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW 2) successfully defended their lead in the National B League. Despite a setback against SFC A, SKW A maintained their lead in the Under 18 category.
CFC 1, the reigning champions, showcased their title aspirations in the National A League with an impeccable record of three 3-0 victories. SKW, also known as the Green-Whites, completed the preliminary round with a perfect score of 36 points after four match days. The most thrilling match of the day unfolded between SKW 1 and SFC 1. SFC 1 initially took the lead, but SKW 1 rallied back, leading 2-1. During the fourth set, SFC 1’s defender, Hanjo Lorck, sustained an injury and had to be replaced. With SFC having only four players, victory seemed imminent for the Green-Whites. However, the resilient coastal team managed to level the set. Impressively, they went on to win the fifth set, marking their first league victory against SKW 1 in over two decades. SFC 1 also secured a win against CFC 2, who faced a 3-0 defeat against SKW 1 and failed to earn any points.
In the National B League, SKW 2 maintained their position at the top of the table with a flawless record of six wins from six games. They remained undefeated, solidifying their dominance. SFC 2 secured the second spot in the table, with their only loss coming against SKW 2. SKW 4 slipped to third place but still secured a spot in the semi-finals scheduled in five weeks. SFC 3 faced setbacks in four out of six games, tying on points with CFC 3, who suffered three defeats. SKW 3 managed to secure one victory, while SKW 5 received two bonus points. Unfortunately, SKW 5 is no longer in contention for the semi-finals. CFC 3 and SFC 3 hold the strongest position for semi-final qualification, while SKW 3 still holds a slim chance.
In the Under 18 category, SFC A capitalized on their home advantage for the first time and defeated SKW A. This victory secured SFC A second place in the table, setting up a match against SKW 2 in five weeks. SKW A retained their top position in the table and will compete against SKW 3.
The next event on the Bank Windhoek Fistball League calendar is the National Playoffs, scheduled to take place at SKW on Saturday, October 21, 2023, in Windhoek.
