Rundu, Sept. 6 — The Affirmative Repositioning movement’s chairperson for Kavango East, Gellasius Kandunda, has called for under 20 players in the region to be granted a fair opportunity to be included in the national team.
Kandunda said he was not happy with the under 20 provisional national teams consisting of 40 players selected during the Namibian Newspapers Cup that was recently held at Oshakati that was announced by the under 20 national team coach on 01 September 2022.
He argued that Kavango East was the runner-up in the tournament, and the interim Regional Activists Council of Kavango East expected fairness from the selectors for the talented young Kavango East players.
“To our surprise, only two players from Kavango East were selected and called to the provisional squad.
Kandunda said the activists concluded that the selection was unfair towards the talented young players.
“The decision made by under 20 national coach and his technical team was too discriminatory towards our players, tribal and full of favoritism and for these reasons, we are pleading with the Interim general secretary and the chairperson of the FIFA Normalization Committee to cancel the trials and restart the process to be led by an independent panel of scouts,” he said.
Kandunda gave the Namibia Football Association until tomorrow to revise the list or they will be forced to take it to the next level which will hurt the already tarnished image of the NFA and Namibian football.
“We just want equality, fairness, and compassion towards our young players because only together, can we push our country forward,” he said.
