WINDHOEK, 31 JUL – The fifth annual Defence Force Foundation Sports Tournament, where 22 teams will be competing in various disciplines at the Sam Nujoma Stadium and the Katutura Sports Complex in Windhoek, kicked off on Monday.
The Namibian Defence Force (NDF) teams will compete in various sport codes such as football, netball, volleyball, athletics, boxing and pool.
Delivering the keynote address at the tournament’s opening ceremony, Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Sinsy Nghipandua said the management committee sets aside N.dollars 100 000 annually as a sponsorship for the hosting of the competition.
“This annual tournament is aimed at honouring the NDF day which is commemorated on 02 June every year,” Nghipandua said.
According to the him, the objective of this tournament is to promote cohesion, encourage endurance, inspire physical fitness and embolden teamwork.
“Sport has the ability to bring people together to interact with one another, thereby creating friendship,” he said.
Nghipandua further called on the participants to use this opportunity wisely so that they can be recognised to represent the country at regional and international military games organised by the International Military Sports Council.
