Dates Eleven take first Gabriel Brave Biwa tourney cup

REHOBOTH, 03 APR – Dates Eleven Football Club were on Monday crowned the winners of the inaugural Gabriel Brave Biwa Easter Tournament after beating Rural Species 4-0 over the weekend in Keetmanshoop.
Dates Eleven defeated Rural Species from !Gaoses 4-0 in the one-sided final.

Dates Eleven defeated Black Arrows 2-0 in the first semi-final, with Rural Species beating ||Kharas Namibian Police (NamPol) 2-1 in the second semi-final for a final showdown against their much fancied opponents.

The ‘Dadel’ as Dates Eleven is affectionately called by its passionate supporters, took the game to their opponents and scored two goals in the first half via the boots of Marius Rooi and Hermanus Katinga.

Dates continued from where they left off in the second half and scored a further two goals through Denzil Pieter and Benin Charly.

Rural Species had no answers for the questions asked by Dates Eleven, and asked the referee to end the game and walked off the field with 15 minutes remaining.

The three-day event organised for Second Division and non-league teams attracted 18 football teams from the region.

Dates Eleven received N.dollars 10 000 with a floating trophy and 22 gold medals, while Rural Species got N.dollars 5 000 and 22 silver medals.

||Kharas NamPol and Black Arrows received N.dollars 2 500 each as semi-final losers.
One of the tournament organisers, Emrico Blaauw said the event fulfilled the intended purpose and was a big success.

“Firstly, I thank the sponsor, Gabriel Biwa, for this noble initiative of promoting football among grassroots teams, especially teams from villages. We managed to attract eight non-league teams from villages,” Blaauw told Nampa on Monday.

He also thanked all sponsors, supporters and football teams who were part of the event.
“Next year we intend to come back bigger and better with more teams to participate. Many thanks to all the sponsors and people who flocked to the stadium to witness the best our region has to offer,” Blaauw remarked.
