RUSTENBURG, South Africa, Jan. 10 — President of the African National Congress (ANC), South Africa’s governing party, Cyril Ramaphosa on Saturday outlined six key priorities that the party plans to champion in 2026, as it seeks to address governance challenges, revive the economy, and rebuild public trust.
Delivering the ANC’s January 8 Statement at Moruleng Stadium in Rustenburg, North West Province, where the party celebrated its 114th anniversary, Ramaphosa declared 2026 a year of decisiveness and detailed the areas the ANC would prioritize in the coming year.
Ramaphosa listed fixing local municipalities as the top priority as the party strives to ensure improved service delivery to communities across the country.
With the economy and job creation high on the minds of many citizens, Ramaphosa said economic growth would be another key focus, noting that the party would work to remove red tape that hinders businesses and create jobs, particularly for young people.
Noting that the country has struggled with stagnant economic growth for about 15 years, Ramaphosa said inclusive economic growth would be driven by accelerated infrastructure investment, the promotion of Black Economic Empowerment to address apartheid-era exclusion, and supportive macroeconomic policies.
“The ANC has remained steadfast in defending the constitutional imperative to redress past imbalances and promote the empowerment of black South Africans, women and youth.
We have agreed that industrial policy must be a leading instrument of economic development, positioning diverse industries to succeed in an increasingly digitized and decarbonized global economy,” he said. (Namibia Daily News/Xinhua)
