SWAKOPMUND, Sept. 14 — After a three-month hiatus, the Bank Windhoek Fistball League is set to make its eagerly awaited return, taking place at the Swakopmund Fistball Club (SFC) on the upcoming weekend, starting at 8:30 AM.
In the National A League, the reigning champions, Cohen Fistball Club (CFC 1), are sitting comfortably at the top of the standings with 27 points. CFC is on the verge of securing first place in the playoffs, needing just one more win to solidify their position. While the participating teams are eager to make their mark, it’s important to note that Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW 1) is securely holding onto second place. However, if CFC 1 faces a setback and loses three consecutive games, SKW 1 could potentially move into the top spot. Meanwhile, the hosts, SFC 1, currently occupy the third position with eight points, closely followed by CFC’s Reserve team, which has accumulated six points.
The match day in the National B League promises to be a thrilling affair, with the playoff spots up for grabs. With only three teams securing direct qualification for the playoffs in October, fans can expect closely contested matches. As of now, six teams are still in contention for direct qualification. Additionally, a fourth team can secure a spot in the semi-finals of the B League playoffs through a round-robin format involving the last four teams. The top contenders for this coveted position are SKW 2, SKW 4, and SFC 2, who are separated by just two points each. Notably, SFC 2 has a game in hand, which they will play against CFC 3 on the upcoming match day.
In the Under 18 category, SKW A currently leads the pack with 18 points, closely followed by SFC A in the second position with 14 points. SKW A has maintained its dominance over SFC A throughout the current season. Whether SFC A can leverage their home turf advantage remains to be seen. SKW B maintains a firm hold on the third position with six points, while SKW C finds themselves in fourth place with no points yet on the board, eagerly awaiting their first breakthrough. In the playoffs, the team in first place will face off against the fourth-placed squad, while the third-placed team will take on the second-placed side in an exciting semi-final showdown.
With the league’s return, fans and players alike are gearing up for an action-packed weekend of fistball competition, as teams vie for supremacy in their respective categories.
