Bank Windhoek and COTA host student entrepreneurship workshop

Bank Windhoek and the College of the Arts (COTA) will host a three-day Arts Entrepreneurship Workshop, starting on Wednesday, 7 until Friday, 9 August 2019 at COTA’s Main Campus in Windhoek. An initiative by COTA themed ‘Lunch with an Entrepreneur’, the aim of the gathering is to assist art students develop skills needed to build their careers as entrepreneurs.

The Arts Entrepreneurship Workshop will be facilitated by the COTA’s lecturers and selected students. “It will also form part of our annual Project Week, which interacts artistically with different communities in Windhoek,” said COTA’s Rector, Angelika Schroeder, as she thanked Bank Windhoek for the support. “As a college, our goal is to empower and equip our full-time students and graduates with the necessary knowledge on how to successfully trade in the arts industry. This will be achieved by educating them through the innovation stage up until the implementation phase.”

The Arts Entrepreneurship Workshop has lined up a variety of subject matters. Participating students will be taught the following: Artists Professional Business Writing; Crafting and writing wining Proposals; Oral Presentations; Brand Building; understanding Public Relations; How to operate a business; Marketing and revenue generation and how to groom a business effectively.

Bank Windhoek’s Public Relations Manager, André Le Roux, said: “For artists a key to their success is to market themselves in a highly competitive market. By investing in artists to unpack their ideas and think like a businessperson, they will succeed. Bank Windhoek believes that, this workshop is one way of achieving that goal, since it will empower the students, who will later create jobs for themselves and others.”

The Arts Entrepreneurship Workshop will conclude with a talent show, which will require the participating students to present what they have learned throughout the duration of the workshop.

COTA currently has a total of 902 students who are studying courses varying from full-time Diploma courses in Performing Arts; Fashion and New Media Design; Radio and Television Production; Visual Arts and Ceramics.
