WINDHOEK, 24 SEP – The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Meeting of Ministers responsible for Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Communication, Transport and Meteorology officially met here on Monday.
A five-day meeting will review the implementation of 42 resolutions taken during the last meeting held in September 2017 in Durban, South Africa, to be implemented by the SADC Secretariat and the SADC implementing agencies and member states.
Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Engel Nawatiseb, during the opening of the meeting said the main effort to ensure regional sustainable integration rested at member states level where implementation is taking place.
He added that different ministries of ICT in various member states are critical enablers of innovation, sustainable socio-economic development and catalysts to meet their national development priorities.
“While making our recommendations, we should always be cognisant of the front lines in this collective effort – the consolidation of our unity and growing together through the pledge for commitment to the SADC Regional Integration Agenda,” Nawatiseb said.
During the event, the ministry will showcase regional projects implemented in the country, such as the Submarine Landing Station at Swakopmund, and the Port of Walvis Bay. – NAMPA
