OTJIWARONGO, 30 APR – The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) at Okahandja on Monday arrested a 42-year-old man suspected of stabbing and killing a man before fleeing the scene in a stolen vehicle.
NamPol’s Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Investigations Co-ordinator, Deputy Commissioner Naukalemo Andreas told Nampa on enquiry Monday the suspect allegedly stabbed the deceased with a knife on the left side of the neck, which caused his death on the spot at about 02h00 Monday morning.
It is alleged the suspect and now deceased man, believed to be between 20 and 25 years, were socialising together in Okahandja.
NamPol’s preliminary investigations indicate that after stabbing the deceased, the suspect allegedly drove the dead body to the dumpsite at Okahandja, where he covered it with dried grass, pebbles and old tyres.
It is alleged the suspect used a small pickup to transport the lifeless body and later fled with the same vehicle in the direction of Hochfeld.
The vehicle was, however, involved in an accident and police found the suspect at the accident scene, approximately 40 kilometres outside Okahandja on the gravel road between Okahandja and Hochfeld where the vehicle had overturned.
The suspect sustained a neck injury.
He was arrested and taken to the Okahandja State Hospital, where he is recovering under police guard.
Charges of murder; attempting to defeat the course of justice; theft of a motor vehicle; operating a vehicle without a driving licence, and reckless and/or negligent driving have been opened against him.
He is expected to appear in the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court this week.
