RUNDU, 25 OCT – A 24-year-old man arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping and killing his 16-year-old girlfriend, Rugharo Mayemi, made his first appearance in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Henog Dihako appeared before Magistrate Sonia Samupofu and the case was postponed to 19 February 2019 for legal aid application, lab results and for further police investigations.
The accused was denied bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the case and that it would not be in the interest of justice to release him on bail.
It is alleged that Dihako raped and killed Mayemi and thereafter removed her body from the murder scene and buried it elsewhere.
It is alleged that the incident occurred last Thursday around 22h00 at Mushashani village in the Divundu district of the Kavango East Region.
The body of the deceased was discovered by a passer-by who alerted the police.
Dihako was charged with murder and rape read with the provisions of Section (3) and (7) of the Combating of Rape Act 8 of 2000 and defeating the course of justice for burying the body of the deceased.
He is being detained at the Mukwe Police holding cells.
