WINDHOEK, SEPT, 6 – The City Police on Wednesday arrested four men, aged between 20 and 22, in connection with the theft of a vehicle in Walvis Bay.
City Police Public Relations Officer, Fabian Amukwelele told the media two suspects allegedly stole an Opel Corsa pick-up on Tuesday around 23h00 in Walvis Bay and drove it to Swakopmund, where they picked up another two suspects before driving to Windhoek.
“According to them, they were looking for an opportunity and the vehicle was allegedly left open with the keys still in the car,” Amukwelele said.
He however said the owner of the vehicle had the keys in his possession and the suspects used a key belonging to a different model.
Amukwelele further said they avoided being caught at the roadblock between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund by making use of the Dune Seven road.
“From the information we got, they were intending to sell the car and split the amount between themselves,” he said.
Amukwelele cautioned the public to make use of trusted locksmiths or replacement agencies when replacing lost keys and to always park their vehicles in safe areas. – NAMPA
