WINDHOEK, 13 AUG – The Secretary General of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), Mike Kavekotora officially announced the resignation of the party’s president, Jeremiah Nambinga and other members here on Monday.
Speaking at a media conference, Kavekotora explained that Nambinga resigned last week as both president and member of the RDP.
Other members that have resigned include Ohangwena regional secretary Timotheus Shikongo and the councillor of RDP at Helao Nafidi, Vilho Shimuooshili.
He expressed concern that seven people have resigned from the party, adding that the former president’s resignation will negatively affect RDP.
“Nambinga is a voter and he has followers who also resigned from the party, meaning that the party has already lost votes,” he stressed.
The SG further claimed that Nambinga and those who were close to him have stalled and undermined the progress of RDP at a time “when the ruling party is messing up the management of Namibia’s economy and the future of young generations.”
RDP on Saturday confirmed Steve Bezuidenhout as acting president until the RDP’s convention, which will take place in December this year.
Kavekotora described the position of regional secretary for Ohangwena as an internal matter and said it will be filled soon, while that of Shimuooshili will be filled after the reconciliation of the party list which is with the Electoral Commission of Namibia.
