HARARE, Dec. 5 -- The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) on Thursday announced a reduction in the level of petrol blending with ethanol from E20 to E10. "Please be advised that the level on blending of anhydrous ethanol with unleaded petrol has been reduced from E20 to E10," ZERA said in a statement. While the regulator did not give a reason for the latest move, reductions have been a common feature over time depending on the availability of ethanol. There are two major producers of ethanol in the country while there are 11 licensed fuel blenders in the country. Despite public perceptions that petrol in the country is over-blended, ZERA has insisted that compliance rates were at 100 percent. The Zimbabwean government introduced fuel blending in 2008 to cut the country's fuel import bill and avert shortages. It was expected that the move would also reduce the price of petrol.
