Oshakati, 27 July 2022 – For many people, writing is a talent worth appreciating, but there are few platforms where this skill can be polished.
In a bid to change the situation, northern journalist Maria David has embarked on a writing competition for people under the age of 16, with an aim of creating a reading platform for them.
David said the idea was inspired by her three-year-old son, who likes emulating his teachers at the day-care centre do in class.
The competition which is already underway will close on 5 August and winners will be announced on 10 August 2022.
“Sometimes you hear him shouting ‘keep quiet and work’. This makes us laugh but we know that their teacher is doing a wonderful job to impact the lives of the little one,” she said.
David added that these imitations inspired her to come up with the kiddies’ competition because writing is a therapy for her.
“Our industry is one where you hear someone saying ‘Thank you. Imagine how people will feel when their children write stories,” she added.
She plans to make the competition an annual event.
This year’s competition is being sponsored by Rani Group of Companies, Fine Margin Writing and Fearless Generation Group.
“Hopefully next year we will have more sponsors on board,” she said.
