OUAGADOUGOU, Aug. 18 — Associate Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Xu Haoliang visited Burkina Faso on Monday to discuss with the country’s authorities ways to strengthen cooperation and support the implementation of the government’s national development priorities.
Xu met with Burkinabe Minister of Foreign Affairs Karamoko Jean Marie Traore, with discussions focusing on cooperation under the country’s RELANCE development plan, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“I am here to examine with the authorities how we can further support the government in achieving the objectives clearly defined in the Relance plan and contribute to the aspirations of the people,” Xu said.
He described the plan as reflecting a clear and realistic strategic vision, highlighting opportunities while taking into account the challenges. He said the UNDP would seek to contribute to its implementation under the leadership of the Burkinabe government and in line with its development vision.
Traore welcomed the UNDP official’s visit, saying that direct contact with the field would provide a more realistic assessment of the country’s situation and help adjust approaches and formulate appropriate responses.
He called for continued cooperation based on listening, dialogue and sincerity, so that UNDP interventions align with Burkina Faso’s national priorities under the Relance plan. He also stressed the need to jointly mobilize resources and strengthen communication on the impact of development initiatives.(Namibia Daily News / Xinhua)
