BEIRUT, June 2 — The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) said Tuesday it needs 112 million U.S. dollars through August to sustain emergency operations in Lebanon.
WFP said in a statement it has deployed 24 humanitarian convoys to southern Lebanon. However, more than half of planned convoy movements have been delayed or canceled because of security risks.
The agency said ongoing bombardments and repeated displacement orders continue to hinder humanitarian access and complicate aid deliveries, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.
Funding shortfalls could disrupt assistance as 1.24 million people face acute food insecurity and over one million remain displaced in the country, it warned.
Despite the April ceasefire, Israel has continued to carry out near-daily strikes in Lebanon, while Hezbollah has launched attacks on Israeli military positions. (Namibia Daily News / Xinhua)
