KAMPALA, Sept. 1 — Ugandan police have arrested six nationals of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in connection with counterfeit U.S. banknotes and marijuana possession, a police spokesperson said Monday.
The six male suspects were seized in the northwestern district of Arua, which borders the DRC, over trafficking and selling fake U.S. dollars and possessing marijuana, police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke told reporters in Kampala, the Ugandan capital.
“Our officers received credible information about a group of individuals dealing in fake U.S. dollars and set up a sting operation. Six individuals were arrested in possession of counterfeit U.S. dollars suspected to be worth 300,000 dollars,” Rusoke said, noting that 12 sticks of rolled marijuana were also recovered during the operation. ”

All six suspects are in our custody and further investigations are ongoing. Police are intensifying the intelligence-led operations in a bid to clean the city and the country, and to curb the circulation of fake currency,” he added.
The suspects will be arraigned and charged in court once investigations are complete, according to Rusoke. (Xinhua)
