ST. PETERSBURG, Aug. 3– Russia’s Northern Fleet has conducted military exercises in the Barents Sea to practice destroying mock enemy naval groupings, the fleet’s press service said on Monday.
According to the press service, the drill involved a naval strike group led by the frigate Admiral Golovko and the missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov, supported by a Bastion coastal missile system, with multiple aircraft participating in different phases of the exercise.
Under the exercise scenario, reconnaissance aircraft detected mock enemy targets before the fleet carried out coordinated missile strikes against targets more than 300 km away, with warships, coastal missile units and a submarine taking part.
The strike involved Kalibr, Vulkan, Oniks and Granit missiles.
All designated targets were successfully hit, said the fleet. (Namibia Daily News / Xinhua)
