RUNDU – 21 SEPT- After looking for reasonable solutions to solve water problems in Rundu, some youth activists organised a meeting Saturday with the community in Rundu at Dr Romamus Kampungu Sports Stadium to discyss public toilets and roads in the town.
Residents came to give their concerns regarding the water crisis tolerated for far too long. One of the youth activists, Mr Frans Kandjilu, said in his speech: “People should always stand for what’s right even if they are few in numbers. The problem is that many people don’t want to stand up when things are not right.”
He explained that there were leaders who hide behind closed doors when they are needed most, adding that, “A true leader does what people want them to do by gathering people and ask what their concerns are in the community that they live in.”
Some of the problems raised by residents include demonstrating for Redforce as the starting point to save money for RTC to have money to improve service delivery. To that effect, a peaceful demonstration has been scheduled for the 22nd of September 2021.
While in the meeting, an expression of interest was raised by the Halo Group Pty to work with Rundu Town Council to provide prepaid water meters to all houses in the area, which are estimated to be approximately 60 000 homes. In addition they can work to improve the quality of water supplied and develop other projects which can increase the water supply capacity by an additional 30%.
Mr Daniel Cullen, the owner of the Halo group, proposed to repay existing debt the Town Council has with NamWater and would reach favourable terms for future bulk supply. – firstname.lastname@example.org
