SEOUL, Dec. 17 — A ruling on Kim Keon-hee, wife of impeached former South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, will be delivered on Jan. 28 next year, Yonhap news agency reported on Wednesday.
The Seoul Central District Court will hand down its ruling on Kim on corruption charges, said the report.
Earlier this month, the team of special counsel Min Joong-ki, leading an investigation into corruption allegations involving the former presidential couple, sought a 15-year prison term for Kim, who has been held at a detention center since August, on charges of violating laws, including the capital markets act and the political funds act.
The ruling on Kweon Seong-dong, lawmaker of the main opposition People Power Party, will also be delivered on Jan. 28 next year.
The special counsel team demanded a four-year jail sentence for the lawmaker on charges of accepting illegal funds from the Unification Church.
The constitutional court upheld a motion to impeach Yoon on April 4 over his botched martial law bid last December, officially removing him from office.
The ousted leader was indicted under detention on Jan. 26 as a suspected ringleader of insurrection. (Namibia Daily News/Xinhua)
