WINDHOEK, 6 May – President Hage Geingob paid tribute to Namibia’s youth and students on Thursday urging them to work collectively for the good of the country.
The president was speaking at the 17th elective conference of the Namibia National Students Organisation (Nanso) taking place at the Windhoek High School.
“A country will be full of hope and can look forward to a bright prospect when its young generation has ideas, abilities, and a strong sense of responsibility,” he said.
President Geingob reminded students of the instrumental role Nanso played in the run-up to independence, where they galvanised young people to actively advocate against the systemic discrimination by apartheid South Africa.
Nanso is also one of the student bodies In Namibia advocating for educational reforms for Namibian students.
“I have noted with keen interest that Nanso has not abdicated its historic position of fighting social inequalities, because even today, the statement has held true that: without equal access to quality education, there can be no equal access to opportunity and prosperity,” he said.
President Geingob encouraged Nanso members and the youth at large to continue working and fighting for the upliftment of the country and its educational sector.
In his concluding remarks, he said: “I wish to state that I have absolute faith and confidence in Namibia’s young people. Your energy, drive, and innovation will enable Namibia to scale new heights.
“And as government, we will leave no stone unturned as we hold hands with the youth to ensure that you fulfill your destiny as the harbingers of a peaceful, stable, developed, and prosperous Namibia.
“Let’s work together as one, holding hands.” – Namibia Daily News
