MANILA, Jan. 5 — Philippine police on Monday arrested retired Air Force Major General Romeo Poquiz on charges of sedition in connection with his alleged role in a destabilization plot against the government.
Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group arrested Poquiz at Manila’s international airport upon his arrival from a family holiday in Bangkok, Thailand, by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by a court for rebellion and inciting to sedition.
Authorities said the complaint stemmed from a protest rally organized by Poquiz’s group in Manila in November last year, during which he allegedly urged members of the armed forces to rise against the current government.
Following his arrest, Poquiz was brought to the Philippine National Police national headquarters, where he underwent booking and documentation procedures before being presented to the court. (Namibia Daily News/Xinhua)
