Nigeria confirms 23 new COVID-19 cases, country total hits 174

April 1, 2020 

   LAGOS, April 1  -- Nigeria's Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday night confirmed 23 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the country's total to 174.
   The newly confirmed cases were travelers who had just returned to the country and people who had been in contact with COVID-19 patients.
   NCDC Director-General Chikwe Ihekweazu said the center's primary strategy is to work with affected states in the identification of COVID-19 cases.
   In response to the outbreak, Nigeria is launching a lockdown in the country's hard-hit areas including Abuja and Lagos. Xinhua
