WINDHOEK Mar. 9 – Namibia Football Association (NFA) and Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) recently issued a statement mourning the passing of FIFA and NFA Assistant Referee, Shilixuleni Ndapewa Kornelius, who passed away at the age of 29 after a short illness.
In a letter addressed to NFA Secretary General, Franco Cosmos on Wednesday, FIFA’s Chairman of the Referees Committee, Pierluigi Collina extended a message of condolence on behalf of the world of football.
“On behalf of the FIFA Referee Committee and the worldwide family of football, I wish to extend our condolences to you, to the Namibia Football Association community and, most importantly, to Ms Shilixuleni Ndapewa Kornelius’ family, friends and forever loved ones,” said Collina.
Most recently, FIFA accredited 11 international match officials amidst of a backlog of suitably qualified match officials in Namibia.
On his part, NFA General Secretary, Cosmos said “the passing of the late Shilixuleni Ndapewa Kornelius is, without a doubt, untimely and her experience and exposure as a FIFA Accredited Assistant Referee, undoubtedly creates a serious setback for the NFA.
