KATIMA MULILO, July 13 – The Katima Mulilo state hospital has been flooded with secondary school leavers intending to get vaccinated as one of the requirements for recruitment into the Namibia Defence Force.
Many people including members of parliament recently questioned the recruitment requirements of the Ministry of Defence, but due to high unemployment levels in the country, job seekers are complying by getting vaccinated to have their applications considered.
NDN spoke to the nurse in charge at the vaccination centre, Mwaka Lilungwe who confirmed that from Monday they had administered 243 vaccinations to job seekers and hundreds more are still in the queues to get vaccinated.
A job seeker Muñambwa Derick said he was at the vaccination centre yesterday but there were too many people for him to get his jab and he has to come back today hoping to get his turn.
Other job seekers who spoke on condition of anonymity said their parents did not want them to get vaccinated citing many excuses from religious reasons to suspected negative side effects of the vaccinations, but added that getting the jab is the only way they can boost their chances of getting employment.
