NBL employee donates computers to learners

WINDHOEK, MAY 23 – An employee of Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) Shali Tauya proves that anyone can make difference, after personally purchasing and donating much needed computers to two schools and a church in a marginalized community in the Omusati region.

The Erkki Tauya Junior Secondary School (JSS), the Okatseidhi Primary School and the Nakayale ELCIN church were the beneficiaries of Tauya’s noble gesture. He initially purchased eight (8) second-hand computers from NBL for the Erkki Tauya JSS – a government school located in the Okalunga village about four kilometres outside of Outapi.

As a rural school in an area with significant ethnic and income disparities, the community, according to the school Principal, Ndamona Sheehama finds it challenging to meet the fundamental needs of the learners. Said Sheehama: “The children lack access to basic resources and walk at least 5km to school every day.”

Tauya, who has been an NBL employee for the past eight (8) years (currently as shift supervisor: security department), identified the need for the learners to be computer literate regardless of their shortcomings. He purchased eight (8) second-hand computers from NBL for this school.

In return, the Erkki Tauya JSS named its newly constructed computer lab in honor of the sponsor, Shali Tauya. “This is the least we could do to show our gratitude towards Tauya for this noble and very meaningful gesture which will go a very long way in the lives of these learners. The donation has made our teaching and learning, as well the school administration work easier,” said Sheehama.

The Okatseidhi Primary School, and the Nakayale ELCIN church were the other beneficiaries of Tauya’s cause. The two each received a computer from the extra two computers donated to Tauya by one of his colleagues who wished to remain anonymous.

“Not only do staff members now have the advantage of finishing their tasks on time but our learners also have the opportunity to learn the basics of computer literacy and the value thereof.” – Okatseidhi Primary School principal, Salomo Moses.

Tauya said: “I know that my donation will make a significant difference in the daily lives of both the students and staff members.
