ONDANGWA, July 12 — The Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater) has recently opened bids for the construction of a water supply scheme in the Ohangwena region. This ambitious project aims to provide a sustainable water source to the towns of Omuthiya, Ondangwa, and Ongwediva.
With an estimated cost of N$1.5 billion (US$100 million), the scheme will be financed through a combination of government and donor funds. Interested parties have until August 15, 2023, to submit their bids for consideration.
The comprehensive scheme encompasses the construction of a new water treatment plant, a 75-kilometre (47-mile) pipeline, and multiple reservoirs. The treatment plant is designed to have a capacity of 100 million litres (26.4 million gallons) per day, while the pipeline will provide water access to a population of approximately 250,000 individuals.
Anticipated to be completed by 2025, the Ohangwena water supply scheme holds great promise for addressing the current water shortages faced by the three towns. Once operational, it will ensure a reliable and sustainable water supply for its residents.
