WINDHOEK, April 27 — Namibia will export 1,600 tons of beef to Norway this year, state regulator Meat Board of Namibia (MBN) said on Friday.
State-owned Meat Corporation of Namibia (Meatco) will export 1,200 tons and privately owned Beefco the remaining 400 tons, the MBN said in a statement.
“Beef exports to Norway and elsewhere take place in accordance with the Meat Industry Act of 1981, under the auspices of the Meat Board, and the use of the allocated quota is monitored on a regular basis by the Meat Board,” the statement said.
Meatco has so far utilized 31.28 percent of its allocated quota, the MBN said.
The MBN is working on modalities to allow cattle farmers in the north and north-eastern part of the country access to the international market after being blocked from exports by a colonial law that sidelined them because of high prevalence of foot-and-mouth disease in that part of the country, the statement said.Xinhua
