WINDHOEK, April 28– Namibia is on course to significantly increase its international flight connectivity within three years by mid-2026, an executive announced on Tuesday.
Bisey Uirab, chief executive officer of Namibia Airports Company and Air Connect Namibia chairman, said in a statement that in 2023, Namibia‘s airports served 10 international destinations.
By mid-2026, that number is expected to increase to 17 destinations via direct or non-stop services. Uirab made the remarks while welcoming the announcement by Swiss leisure airline Edelweiss to increase its upcoming non-stop service between Zurich Airport and Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport from two to three weekly flights starting July 15.
Uirab said the move is “a strong vote of confidence in both our country and the long-term potential of the Zurich-Windhoek service.”
“The airline’s decision to add frequency demonstrates what we as a country can achieve through constructive collaboration with our project stakeholders and the broader community,” he said.
According to Uirab, Switzerland remained one of Namibia‘s most important European source markets in 2025, ranking as the country’s fifth-largest, with an estimated 24,200 two-way international origin-destination passengers.
With the addition of a third weekly frequency, Namibia is set to double its international flight connectivity within three years, with Airports Company operating 13 direct weekly flights between its European gateways and Windhoek. (Namibia Daily News / Xinhua)
