WINDHOEK, July 29– Namibia on Wednesday launched a national training program to increase women’s representation in sports leadership, as the country seeks to strengthen gender equality and governance in the sporting sector.
The program adopts a train-the-trainer approach, equipping participants with leadership, governance, and management skills that they are expected to pass on through regional and community sports structures, extending the initiative’s reach nationwide.
Namibia Women in Sport Association (NAWISA) President Rauha Haipinge said the program is aimed at building a sustainable pipeline of female leaders who can drive policy, governance, and participation in sport at all levels.
“By empowering trainers to replicate this knowledge, we are ensuring that the advancement of women in sport is deeply rooted in our communities,” Haipinge added.
According to the organizers, the curriculum covers ethical leadership, strategic planning, financial management, team building, conflict resolution, sports club development, fundraising, sponsorship proposal writing, grassroots sport development, disability inclusion, public speaking, and monitoring and evaluation.
Organizers said the initiative is intended to strengthen women’s leadership and promote inclusive governance across Namibia’s sports sector.
The five-day initiative, organized by NAWISA in partnership with the Namibia Sport Commission, is being held in the northern towns of Ongwediva and Oshakati from Wednesday to Sunday under the theme “Raising the Game: Advancing Women’s Leadership in Sport.” (Namibia Daily News / Xinhua)
