WINDHOEK, Dec. 7 -- Namibia's troubled domestic football league (NPL) has received another setback, as its main sponsor has indicated that it would not renew its funding after the 2019/20 season. A letter seen by Xinhua on Friday suggested that telecommunications firm MTC would not renew its three-year sponsorship deal with the NPL once it comes to an end after the current season. "We wish to inform that MTC has taken a decision that we will not renew the sponsorship agreement when it runs out after the season that is yet to start," said MTC official Tim Ekandjo. Ekandjo said MTC will continue to hold the sum of around 1.1 million U.S. dollars which was approved for the 2019/20 season, and should the league season not commence before the end of MTC's financial year in September 2020, the NPL will forfeit this money. "We wish to reiterate that as a sponsor we are not happy with the current status quo, the breaches in agreement we continue to experience and the fact that the NPL remains a suspended entity," he added.
