NAMCOL employees support Onamutene school

ONAMUTENE, 05 OCT  – Manager of the Namibian College of Opening Learning (NAMCOL) in northern Namibia, Paavo Pea said education remains the only hope for development of any country.
Pea made this remark whilst handing over a donation of school uniforms and textbooks to the Onamutene Combined School (CS) in the Oshikoto Region on Thursday.
“We believe when the youth are educated, then the country is educated and when the youth are strong, then the country is strong,” said Pea.
He told those present that if Namibia, as a developing country, wants to catch up with development, its nation must catch up in education first.
“The small contribution we are making today is only a small gesture, a show of goodwill to a next person,” Pea stated, adding that northern employees of NAMCOL used their personal funds (N$17 000) to purchase the donated uniforms and books.
They donated the uniforms to 19 needy learners and 107 books (English, Mathematics, Entrepreneurship, Oshindonga and Geography) for the school library.
Also speaking at the occasion, Onamutene Combined School headmaster, Alexander Mwelitungapo noted that although Onamutene is a remote school, it has achieved significant success over the two previous academic years.
Mwelitungapo pointed out that the school in 2016 recorded a 65 per cent pass rate in Grade 10 and in 2017, it scored an 88 per cent pass rate in the same grade.
“Bring your children to Onamutene CS, the tower of learning,” Mwelitungapo urged.
Situated in the Oshigambo Circuit of the Oshikoto Education Directorate, Onamutene has a population of 292 learners from pre-primary to Grade 10, 14 teachers, two cleaners and a nine-member school board.
