KEETMANSHOOP, 11 OCT – The construction of the Krönlein Primary School is at 60 per cent, after the school utilised N.dollars 1.8 million, the school’s principal, Hendrik Coetzee has said.
Coetzee revealed this to Nampa in an interview after receiving a donation of N.dollars 10 000 from Marco Fishing Charity Trust here on Thursday.
He said that while the construction efforts so far are praiseworthy, the school still needs N.dollars 1.3 million to complete the hall.
“The contractors have given us a quotation of N.dollars 1.3 million for them to complete the remaining 40 per cent of work that is still outstanding,” he said.
He also disclosed that the funds used to build the hall thus far were sponsored by corporate organisations, the community, former learners of the school, parents and the school itself, through various fundraising activities.
Speaking before handing over the donation, Chairperson of Marco Fishing Charity Trust, Jan Scholtz said the trust is committed to contributing to the livelihoods of Namibians, especially in areas of health, education and community development.
He added that while the Namibian Government, through various projects, does its best to make sure that no Namibian child sits at home without education, the private sector is equally obligated to meet it half way in making this possible.
“Therefore, we have pledged to make education one of our core areas of support and we will continue doing so despite the economic situation we find ourselves in. We will continue to share the little we have without hesitance,” Scholtz added.
Receiving the donation, Coetzee extended a word of gratitude towards the fishing company.
In June this year, the school pleaded with former learners and the community members of Keetmanshoop to assist the school with funds as it continues building its school hall.
