WINDHOEK, SEPT. 6 – Minister of Works and Transport, John Mutorwa, has called for transparency, honesty and accountability in the Namibian construction industry.
“We should render services honestly and put an end to nepotism and favouritism, especially within the public sector,” Mutorwa urged.
The minister was speaking at the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) one-day workshop for members of the construction industry here on Thursday.
Mutorwa urged Namibians to report corruption, stating that it should be everyone’s responsibility to put corruption to an end.
The workshop was aimed at sensitising professionals and other practitioners, who are actively involved in construction, on possible corruption loopholes as well as to identify red flags in their respective workplaces.
Director-General of the ACC, Paulus Noa, during the same event, added that the one-day workshop is meant to exchange ideas on how the ACC can improve transparency in the construction industry, seeing as the industry is one of the biggest sectors and employs many Namibians.
“We need to help identify challenges and risks the industry faces and ultimately consider the development of the mitigating factors for the risks identified,” Noa said.
He added that the contributions will help both parties to achieve their goal in putting an end to corruption and ensure good governance in the industry.
Speakers during the workshop also included Construction Industries Federation president Nico Badenhorst and permanent secretaries in the Ministries of Works and Transport, Finance and Urban and Rural Development. – NAMPA
