Katima Mulilo, July 31 — The most extensive strike in Namibia looms as results of the just-ended elections across the country come in.
Just like other regions, civil servants in the Zambezi have exercised their democratic right and chose to go on strike despite warnings that the no work no pay rule will be applied.
As expected huge numbers have voted in favour of the industrial action that could cripple most government services except those that have been classified as essential staff.
Regardless of that, there are other ministries not classified as essential. If for instance workers in national parks go on strike, poachers could take advantage of the slaughter game.
The Ministry of Education could also be affected as days of teaching and learning could be reduced.
A parent in the Zambezi region, Bernard Sabano, says the children cannot afford another stay away from school as last year COVID 19 affected the teaching and learning, it will be disastrous if the strike goes ahead as children need to make up for the time lost last year.
