WINDHOEK, 01 NOV– Lady May will now go by the name ‘Lady May Africa’ after she has rebranded herself.
Her music career is also going in a different direction as she will now sing gospel songs and has signed a one-year record deal with D-Naff Entertainment.
Launching her latest single ‘Let it shine’ here on Tuesday, the 31-year-old singer, whose real is name Martha Namundjebo, said she has always loved Jesus but she is now a born again Christian.
“My love and gratitude for Jesus and for what he has done over the years encouraged this transition and full transformation,” she stated.
Lady May Africa further noted that the move is about her giving back to the Lord for all he has done for her.
“To make a decision like the one I made takes the whole mind, body and soul. There is no in between and that is one of the reasons why I made this decision,” she said.
Over the years, the singer was known for being a free-spirited individual who expressed herself freely with seductive dance moves and revealing outfits.
An incident of note was the 2011 Namibia Music Awards, where Lady May after winning the award for ‘Best House’ for her song ‘Zoom Zoom’ used profanities during her acceptance speech.
Lady May Africa noted that she has put all of this behind her and “is now a new person in Christ”.
On his part, D-Naff noted that it was important for him that Lady May Africa knows what it means to be a born again Christian.
“When people sign with D-Naff Entertainment, they not only release songs or albums, the label also mentors them so as to strengthen their faith,” he said.
