Kavekotora to contest RDP presidency

WINDHOEK, 25 OCT  – Rally for Democracy and Progress secretary-general Mike Kavekotora will run for the position of party president when the RDP holds its third Ordinary National Convention in December.
This was confirmed by Kavekotora in an interview with Nampa on Wednesday, shortly after the race was officially opened for the party’s top leadership positions.
“I have accepted the request to run for the position of president of the RDP because I have matched the position with the competency that I have, the experience I have, especially the experience I have acquired during my five-year term as RDP secretary-general,” Kavekotora said.
He said during the five years at the helm of the party’s day-to-day affairs, he has come to understand its strengths, weaknesses, where it has failed and why it failed.
“It is on that basis that I have concluded that I can add value to the position,” he said.
Asked what he intends to bring to the party should he emerge victorious, Kavekotora replied: “I can unify the party because I know the problems we are facing as leaders.”
Chief among his immediate suggestions is that RDP needs to restructure itself and to implement a political culture that is unique to itself.
“Secondly, there is a need for team work intervention. You need to bring people together for a common purpose and not to work as individuals within an organisation. We have failed in forming a solid, united team.”
He then announced his running mates at the upcoming convention, who are businessman-cum-politician, Kennedy Shekupakela as vice president and City of Windhoek councillor Brunhilde Cornelius as secretary general.
Cornelius is deputised in the slate by Parliamentarian and long-time RDP servant, Agnes Limbo.
“This is a team that I think has the quality to push and pull this party forward. It is a diverse team. A gender-based team. A team that at the end of the day, everyone can associate with,” he said.
For now, it is only the Kavekotora camp that has officially indicated its intention to run for leadership positions at the convention.
