JERUSALEM, June 8 — Israel was preparing for “several days” of fighting with Iran, an Israeli security official said on Monday.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity at a press briefing, said the Israeli military was carrying out attacks in Iran according to “plans prepared in advance,” intending to weaken the Iranian government.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that negotiations were still ongoing, saying both Israel and Iran were “looking to do an immediate CEASEFIRE.”
“Final negotiations on ‘Peace’ are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way,” Trump wrote, adding that the blockade on the Strait of Hormuz would “remain in place, and in full force and effect, until a ‘Final Deal’ is reached. Things should move quickly.”
Israel launched waves of large-scale attacks on Iran overnight from Sunday into Monday, after Trump, in interviews with two major Israeli TV channels, urged Israel not to strike.
Meanwhile, Israeli Education Minister Yoav Kisch said schools and kindergartens across the country would remain closed for a second day on Tuesday, while planned matriculation exams would be postponed.
Iran launched missile attacks against Israel for the first time since the April ceasefire, in retaliation for deadly Israeli airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburb. (Namibia Daily News / Xinhua)
