Green supports NUST’s career fair and stimulates interest in technology

WINDHOEK, MARCH 19 –  Green Enterprise Solutions (Green) participated in NUST’s Career Fair that took place at NUST Windhoek campus on 13 & 14 March, 2019 with the theme “Catalysing Youth Empowerment for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.” The event was attended by high school learners and there were even a few eager primary schools pupils that attended at the main campus of NUST, in Windhoek.

Green Enterprise Solutions a truly Namibian company providing information and communication technology (ICT) services to corporate Namibia, participated as an exhibitor alongside NUST’s internal faculties, Government Ministries and corporations. The fair focused on possible career options available within the various disciplines as presented by the exhibitors. In addition, the learners were keen to know which entities offer bursaries and/or study loans as well as Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities. Green offers Work Integrated Learning.

Green provided ‘future’ ICT and tech-specialists with information on the solutions ,services and products it offers. They were interested to hear about the different departments of Green and how they collectively contribute to the organisation’s success. Pupils were inspired and a little surprised to hear that Green is a wholly Namibian owned, showing that the potential and possibilities are endless. Green also dispelled the myth that “one needs to have computer studies at secondary level in order to pursue tertiary studies in the ICT discipline.” It was through the NUST career fair platform that learners learned that they merely need specific subjects such as English and Mathematics with a C-grade to be accepted at a tertiary institution in Namibia (Unam and NUST among others) to pursue a degree in Computer Science and related disciplines.

Through our Work Integrated Learning (WIL) programme, Green is committed to building future Namibian leaders in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Our WIL programme offers a wide range of opportunities for students to gain practical and administrative skills. The duration of Green’s WIL programme is between three to six months and in some cases leads to permanent employment.

This NUST event is very important and Green is proud to be a supporter of it, as it helps the learners think seriously about their career choices. We may have motivated the new batch of innovation and ICT-specialists that will create and develop bespoke ICT solutions throughout and for Africa, right here in Namibia. – NDN Staffer
